The Pani Grahanam

Posted by Sathya (Chennai, India) on 19 September 2014 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio.

Pani Grahanam can be roughly translated as "Acceptance of the Hand"

In this ceremony, the Groom holds the Bride's right hand and recites the marriage vows in 4 Vedic mantras. He prays to Agni (The God of Fire), Saraswathi (Godess of Knowledge) and Vayu (God of Air) for blessings, long life and confluence of minds.

This image captures the essence of Pani Grahanam.
