Mangalyadharanam can be translated as "Tying of the sacred thread"
The tying of the Mangal Sutra (sacred thread) takes place at exactly the pre-determined auspicious hour. The bride is seated on the lap of her father. The bridegroom puts the gold "Mangal Sutra" tied to the turmeric thread around the neck of the bride.
Totally, three knots are tied. The first knot is tied by the bridegroom. The other two knots are tied by the Groom’s sister to make the bride a part of their family. The three knots symbolize Lord Brahma (The Creator), Lord Vishnu (The Protector) and Lord Shiva (The Destroyer).
The is the ultimate moment of the wedding ceremony where one and all bless the couple by showering them with flowers and akshata (holy rice grains dipped in turmeric).
This moment marks the actual wedding between the Bride and the Groom and is the most precious moment in one's life.
